Penny, one of Salford’s grassroots Poverty Truth Commissioners, recently took part in the launch of a major new anti-poverty strategy. Here are her reflections on the experience.
I went to the launch of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation’s ‘Solve UK Poverty’ strategy with lots of doubts – as a parent / humanitarian and a Poverty Truth Commissioner who works and lived in poverty, has had enough of people who make decisions for us not listening and understanding our needs.
But at the launch of #solveukpoverty I felt a sense of hope once more. Now I think that at last, we are heard.
With the research done, on causes of poverty and actual figures of how many people in Britain, live in poverty every day, I am finally , recovering the knowledge that we can in the future be a proud Britain once more.
I am passionate to be involved with Church Action on Poverty to help bring a poverty-free country for our children and grandchildren.
