Anti-poverty work celebrated in memory of Paul Goggins

Paul GogginsIn December, a prize was given for local anti-poverty work in memory of Paul Goggins, the former Director of Church Action on Poverty who died a year ago.

Local projects connected to Church Action on Poverty groups in Barnsley and Sheffield were nominated for the prize. Here’s a report from the award organisers:

A community project from south-east London has won the first Paul Goggins Memorial Prize for best Civil Society Initiative. The £3,000 prize, donated by the Webb Memorial Trust, is in honour of the late MP for Wythenshawe and Sale East, Paul Goggins, who passed away early in 2014. Paul was Secretary to the All Party Parliamentary Group on Poverty and a long standing anti-poverty campaigner.

The Whitefoot and Downham Community Food + Project was nominated by their local
MP Heidi Alexander for their work on poverty. “This is a fitting tribute to Paul Goggins who is missed terribly,” Alexander said.
